Interview with Thomas Schieffer
Why are you so committed to helping business people reduce their stress?
When I was in my twenties, I graduated at the top of my class as a flight mechanic and landed my dream job working on Blackhawk helicopters for Sikorsky Industries. I was living the life that everyone told me would bring me happiness, flying business class all around the world, seeing interesting places, working at the top of my field, and making a lot of money.
But I wasn’t happy, and I felt like something was missing. I worked countless hours, allowing me no time for friends or family. My work became an endless cycle of achieving and doing that never really gave me any deep satisfaction. From working so hard, I lost focus on what I really wanted from life. So, after nearly ten years as an engineer, I decided to take a leap of faith and leave my six-figure job to find out what it would take to be happy and healthy.
I began studying with amazing teachers from many different traditions around the world, and I learned how to have a life where I thrive instead of just survive, how to see the full picture and still keep an eye on the details, a truly holistic way of approaching health and life. Most of all I learned how to be happy in the world and roll with the punches.
What I found was more than just another career; I found a way of life, a way of living. Now I teach my clients how to relieve stress, improve their health, and find happiness with traditional Chinese medicine through lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, and Zen shiatsu bodywork. Based on what I learned, I’ve created a powerful system that can support each of my clients as individuals, because on size does not full all. I find meaning and great joy in bringing my clients the ancient secrets of a 5,000-year-old science of health and life and making this wisdom relevant and applicable to their modern-day situations.
I am dedicated to helping people who are living now like I was back in my engineering days reduce their stress and create fulfilling, meaningful lives, often without even having to leave their careers, like I did, and I’m passionate about offering them an opportunity that I did not have. Life is challenging in the business world and with just the right tools, you can make a dramatic difference in your life.
